Chief Executive Officer
National Angel Capital Organization
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Claudio Rojas is Chief Executive Officer at the National Angel Capital Organization.
The National Angel Capital Organization (NACO) provides intelligence, best practices, tools and resources to its members to unlock the angel capital funding and mentorship that is critical to helping Canadian founders to grow and scale their companies globally. Since 2012, over 2224 angel capital investments were made in more than 1472 companies with a total value of more than $853.3 million, highlighting the vibrant and buoyant Canadian entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Mr. Rojas's research on founder centrism, recently featured by the University of Oxford, bridges the gap between scholarly inquiry and real-world application to investment. His innovative work, published in the University of British Columbia Law Review, integrates legal and economic analysis, with particular emphasis on the impact of ownership structure and governance on economic efficiency. He holds domain expertise in founder-oriented ownership structures and consumer-oriented technology – alongside an exceptionally long-term entrepreneurial mindset.
For almost a decade, Mr. Rojas has established a track record in identifying world-class founder centric companies, investing during periods of uncertainty, and successfully holding for the long term. His success is attribued to an investment methodology rooted in academic research, alongside the traditional value investing principles taught by Ben Graham at Columbia University in the 1930’s and espoused by Warren Buffett with much success in recent years. A forthcoming working paper, Eclipse of the Public Corporation: Concentrated Equity Ownership (CEO) Theory, reveals the economic basis for this outperformance, which extends beyond idiosyncratic stock selection abilities.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Rojas engaged in matters related to general corporate commercial law practice, with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, securities and corporate finance at Dentons LLP (formerly, Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP). He has also advised on issues related to regulating reporting issuers and issuer-related policy initiatives at the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC).
Mr. Rojas has held the roles of managing director, board member, advisor, and founder of several prominent organizations, including Hurt Capital, Canada Fintech Forum, Holt Fintech Accelerator, Institute for Founder Centric Studies, and Canadian Dream Summit – a technology conference that welcomes world-class speakers and attendees focused on building powerful companies with global reach.
He holds a JD from Western University in Canada, MBA from the Ivey Business School, has achieved all three levels of the CFA examinations, is a practitioner member of the European Corporate Governance Institute, and is a lawyer member of the Bar of Ontario, Canada.
Mr. Rojas is a sought after speaker and engages with governmental agencies on legislative reform initiatives with a view to advancing global economic growth.
